Our Capabilities

Needs Assessment

A common question we get is “Where do I make the first change to improve my system?” That question opens the door to in-depth conversations. We ask, you answer, we listen. That helps us find those “first changes to improve your system” and more importantly, determine how any change will affect the rest of your system. We have to make sure we improved the system, not just moved the problem.

Model Design

We build all of our designs in 3D models. This helps us find any dimensional interferences and gives you the ability to see the components assembled in your system. The realistic view lets you seed the solid shapes and surfaces. We can then literally “walk-thru” the design with you.

Drying Systems

The quality of your finished seed starts in the drying process. It’s that old “begin with the end in mind” theory. We look at more than 35 distinct factors to find what best fits your needs. Many people group these together and it works. If you want to maximize efficiency combined with seed quality, our comprehensive review provides a clear roadmap for you.

Packaging Systems

Packaging different seed sizes in different sized containers with different treatments all make this aspect labor intensive with many moving parts from different manufacturers, accurate labeling, tag(s), string breaks…all challenges to bringing these pieces together to work as a efficient and effective system. Many different solutions are possible from Popp Engineering to match your particular business and customer needs.

Conditioning Systems

There are a lot of variables that determine what sizing means to your business. In seed corn, we consider 24 different criteria to create your system. The key to performance in the field is in maximizing these for each seed lot. Can you adjust easily, and do you know what each adjustment means to your final seed product? Understanding your system can bring measured results to your seed’s yield.

Refuge Blending Systems

Meeting the requirements for refuge seed as part of your IRM program is possible with an accurate measuring and blending system. We have developed four different ways to bring the two components together and document your process. These solutions vary based on your operation, so we allow you to see which one best fits your needs and how the accuracy can positively impact your field performance.

Treatment Systems

The massive list of chemical and application recipes seem to get more complicated every year. There are many different chemicals and additives available today, and these ever-changing inputs require us to help you build a system to accommodate the changing recipes. Our new mixing systems have also proven to reduce build up and treatment chunks. You don’t have to remove the chunks if you don’t create them in the first place.

Project Management/Installation

Your system has been reviewed, the design is completed, the pieces are ordered. Our experienced project leaders now have the hard part of leading the workers through the construction process. The startup and commissioning are then part of our leadership to transfer our knowledge to your operators in order to maximize the performance of the new system design. We teach installation, then we move to describing what, why and how it works along with any issues to resolve. Problems come up, solutions get completed, maximum productions systems surface at your business.

Dust Hazard Analysis

Your facility’s Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) is required per NFPA 652 and should be performed or lead by a qualified person.  Popp Engineering staff is highly qualified to perform this analysis due to our extensive knowledge of seed industy equipment, dust systems, NFPA code, and fire and explosion mitigation strategies available on the market today.

Custom Process Design

The seed industry is a unique marketplace with everchanging technological advancements.  Popp Engineering has been a part of many industry firsts from mobile processing units, to specialized seed treatment processes.  We understand the industry and work with you to design the solution that’s right for the job.

Receiving/bulk storage systems

Seed is a valuable commodity, why ignore damage to the seed before it even enters your conditioing facility?  Some other people may say, “we can clean it up later” but Popp Engineering designes every part of the receiving and bulk storage process to protect your product so that you get the most out of your production.

Automation and Systems Integration

The opportunities have never been greater to improve the efficency and productivity of your process systems.  Our control systems are designed with the seed in mind.  From variety tracking to failsafes our systems reduce the potential for downtime and production losses.  We have extensive experiance with integrating systems so that your process works  seamlessly together as a whole and not just as a single piece.
